Biography

Behnood Bikdeli MD started his Internal Medicine Residency at Yale University and Yale New-Haven Hospital in June 2013.

With a longstanding passion to cardiovascular medicine, he has worked on several cardiovascular projects from histopathologic studies to development of clinical practice guidelines. A graduate of Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences in Iran, he has collaborated with several local and international organizations including the World Health Organization (WHO) and the World Heart Failure Society and has travelled to several countries for scientific presentations. Besides acute venous and arterial thrombotic disease, and atherosclerosis which constitute major areas of his interest and publications, he is particularly interested in clinical studies in the context of heart failure. In Iran, he worked as a clinical and research associate at the heart failure and heart transplant unit of Masih-Daneshveri Hosptail, a WHO-collaborating university hospital.

Prior to starting his residency training, Dr. Bikdeli was a Post-doctoral Associate in Cardiovascular Medicine under Dr. Krumholz at Yale Center for Outcomes Research and Evaluation (CORE) and he has continued to collaborate with CORE, contributing to or leading several projects. He led studies about differences in use and outcomes of various loop diuretics for patients with heart failure, and trends for hospitalizations and outcomes of endocarditis among Medicare beneficiaries from 1999-2010, and has been leading a systematic review of major recent cardiovascular trials. Among other contributions, he is also collaborating with a group of experts for a study about national trends in hospitalizations with pulmonary embolism (PE) among US older adults, as well as the utilization rates and outcomes of advanced PE therapies in these patients.

Dr. Bikdeli is a reviewer for several journals including the Annals of Internal Medicine, Circulation, and British Medical Journal (BMJ), and is a Section Editor for Circulation: Cardiovascular Quality and Outcomes.
