Surgery

General Information

Yale Surgery has attained international recognition for making surgery safer and less invasive while maintaining the core principles of surgical care. Minimally invasive approaches are available across a wide spectrum of care, and are employed to minimize surgical trauma and expedite recovery. A complete array of surgical services is available for both adults and children. Yale surgeons are at the forefront of clinical, basic, and translational research.

Services include:

  • Cardiac surgery
  • Colon and rectal surgery
  • Dental/orthodontic surgery
  • Endocrine surgery
  • Gastrointestinal surgery, including bariatric surgery
  • Oncology/The Breast Center
  • Otolaryngology, including head and neck surgery
  • Pediatric surgery
  • Plastic and reconstructive surgery
  • Thoracic surgery
  • Transplantation (solid organ)
  • Trauma, surgical critical care, and emergency surgery
  • Vascular surgery

Distinguishing factors:

  • More surgical suites, with more state-of-the-art technology in YNHH than in any other hospital in the region
  • First "invisible incision" surgery to remove a woman's appendix through a small incision in her vagina, allowing her to return to normal activity almost immediately
  • Collaboration with the Yale Department of Biomedical Engineering and with industry to develop 3D bio-printing in connection with the regeneration, repair, and replacement of human tissue and vessels
  • Multidisciplinary teams for complex disease treatment
