Biography

Dr. Couturier is the Medical Director for the Yale New Haven EMS system, responsible for oversight, quality improvement, and training of EMTs, paramedics, residents, fellows, nurses, and practicing physicians. She is also the Yale EMS Fellowship Director.

Dr. Couturier is board certified in Emergency Medicine (EM) and Emergency Medical Services (EMS). Her research focuses on improving operations, safety, and training for EMS clinicians, with a special focus on education. She has a background in public health and public health advocacy, and spent several years on active duty with the US Navy studying circadian rhythm and performance as a Dive Medical Officer. She serves as co-chair for CT’s EMS Advisory Committee’s policy subcommittee, and is the medical director for in-home nursing staff for a local Mobile Integrated Health (MIH) initiative providing hospital-level care in the home. She has contributed chapters to several academic textbooks about dive medicine and circadian biology.
