Biography

After growing up in Zurich I attended Brown University and then returned for medical school at the University of Lausanne. Residency training was in New Haven at the Hospital of St. Raphael and in 1986 I started my career caring for Veterans in the first national VHA primary care pilot I have held many administrative positions managing our academic and community based clinics at the VA Connecticut Healthcare System but have never left my calling as a primary care provider to all cohorts of Veterans at the West Haven, Connecticut VA Medical Center. I am the national Co-Director of the Post Deployment Integrated Care Initiative and support several key national initiatives on pain and opioid safety for VA Central Office.I also continue as clinical faculty educating medical students and residents. I have been involved in educational initiatives for VA staff and community providers and have publications on military culture and post deployment care. I am interested in health systems redesign to provide safe and effective holistic patient centered and patient driven care.. My focus is on the integration of mental health services, integrative medicine and telehealth into primary care practice, as well as improving team based collaborative care models for patients with complex chronic comorbidities especially involving chronic pain, leveraging virtual care and self care support.
